The aim of our project is to build a lexicon for collocations from parallel corpora with entries consisting of
phrase pairs. This lexicon will be accessed intelligently.
As an example scenario, a user selects a word in a sentece he/she does'nt understands. The lexicon will provide relevant information under consideration of the context of the word.
Especially collocations should be recognized by this.
In the context of the project we want to use bilingual (German-English) parallel corpora.
The respective translations of a pair of phrases will play the part of semantics and should make it possible to recognize collocationen.
This information can be used as help to text comprehension understand for user who are not native speakers of German.
Our unterstanding of collocations is based of the terms used by Breidt.
